The role of hormones and your health
DHEA
Produced by the adrenal glands, DHEA is one of the main building blocks of estrogen and testosterone.
Its main function is to help the body deal with stresses of all kinds: physical or emotional. It also strengthens the immune systems (important
for people who get sick often) and, when found in sufficient quantities in the body, slow down the rate at which a person ages.
Many studies have shown DHEA's ability to fight against cardiovascular disease. DHEA is considered by most researchers to be the best "age
gauge," because the older we get, the lower the levels of DHEA become. People with low DHEA levels are aging faster than they need to be.
