Hypothyroidism and chronic tiredness
Hormones & Fatigue
Of all the reasons both men and women come to our clinic, fatigue is by far the most common complaint. There are many causes for profound fatigue,
some of which can be caused by the loss of hormones and by poor diet. Anything "diet" or "low fat" with the fake sugars (aspartame, Splenda,
Nutrisweet, etc.) can cause fatigue.
The thyroid and adrenal glands play an important function in maintaining our energy levels. Common symptoms of low
thyroid are:
- Chronic fatigue (despite plenty of sleep)
- Inability to lose weight (despite dieting and exercising)
- Cold hands and feet
- Dry skin
- Mild depression and mood swings
- Constipation
- Brittle finger nails
- Loss of hair when brushing
- Forgetfulness and inability to concentrate
- Anxiety
Although your doctor may have checked your thyroid levels and informed you everything looked normal, 95% of the time they check TSH, which
does not relate to the active part of the thyroid hormones. To truly determine whether your thyroid is functioning properly, you must have a "free
T3" test performed. The first step in our wellness program is a blood test which analyzes your free T3 and several other hormones.
